THE GALLERIES OF MILL STREET
The heritage of Mill Street is the common thread that brings us (Lorene and Bob) together to create this community of artistic works. Mill Street connected downtown and the sand pit where the Rock River joined the Mississippi. Red pine logs rafted downriver from the Northwoods fed the sawmills and millwork shops that were located here. These enterprises in turn spawned the burgeoning downtown with its variety of shops. There were potters, metal fabricators, photographers, seamstresses, and weavers – all of the artisans who made a living on Mill Street. There was a sense of community and identity – a creative energy. We want to re-create this community of artisans and the neighborhood that defines it.
